Please join us. Everyone is welcome.
The United Church of Nelson is a combined ministry of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the
United Methodist Church. In the early 1970's when the town of Nelson was flooded to make room
for the Cowanesque Dam and resulting lake, these two separate congregations combined ministry.
The result is a vibrant church family that celebrates the unique attributes of two traditions.
ITEMS of INTEREST
Friday Morning Coffee and Conversation
Let's try something new! How about an every-Friday-morning cup of coffee with your
brothers and sisters? Come and join when you can and leave when you must. We'll
gather at 9 AM at P&J's restaurant to begin with (restaurant locations may rotate) and
stay until conversation wanes. Object: to be a support to one another, to talk about
current issues, to laugh at our own foibles, to answer the "why's" we run into in our faith
journeys, and to grow in Christ. The time together is open to both guys and gals.
See you this Friday!
It's Shoebox time once again!!!
Date: Friday, Nov. 11th, 1-4 pm
Time to start bringing in all your goodies to be included in the boxes. Remember.....
no guns, knives, liquids, or soft candies that will melt. We are averaging completion
of about 50 boxes each year, so plan accordingly. Since summer is over and school has
started, now is a good time to find those items at clearance prices! Gifts of cash are also
welcomed. Once again, Liz Christley is heading up this mission for Nelson and Dawn
Slonaker for Parkhurst. Contact them for details.
Krislund Camp is holding a special fall open house. Our kids can try the rope course
and climbing wall, along with other fun stuff. Dot is planning to go. Who else would
like to come? (Great for the Youth Group)

twice - on Thursday morning/afternoon (time TBA depending on the preference of
participants) and again on Sunday afternoon/evening (time TBS depending on the
preference of the participants. Tentatively, the Thursday will be held at Parkhurst
Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Sunday class at the United Church of Nelson.

Safe Sanctuaries Training
There ar a couple of choices......
1) A Safe Sanctuaries training is being offered on Saturday morning, November 5th,
at the Blossburg Methodist Church from 9 am - noon. Cost is $3 for the workbook
when you arrive You must either email Michelle Somerville at
email@example.com or call 570-638-3046 to register. Dot will be attending
this one, so if you want to go as a group, just register and let her know. You MUST
attend your first Safe Sanctuaries in person if you have not attended before.
2) If you have had Safe Sanctuaries training in the past, you can go online at
www.susumc.org/index.php/about-us/safe-sanctuaries and complete it. At the end,
you will be able to print out a certificate of completion.
Whichever you complete, give Dot a copy of your certificate for the file. Remember....
BOTH denominations require the state and FBI clearances, and the UMC absolutely requires
Safe Sanctuary training before you are permitted to work with children.
